Microwave ovens usually come in two formats: "Over-the-Range", and "Countertop", though they can also sometimes be found in a built-in oven format. Over-the-Range Microwaves are just what they say they are: the microwave is installed over the range or countertop, integrated into surrounding wall cabinets. In this format, it will come with a fan underneath, providing ventilation for your cooktop, and essentially doubling as a range hood. Countertop microwaves are also just what they say they are. They are designed to sit on top of a countertop, requiring no advanced installation.
