The drum of a clothes dryer will usually be made from one of the following three materials:
- Alluminized alloy steel: this is the most cost-effective material with basic rust prevention. However, it can be vulnerable to scratching and chipping over time, especially if you find yourself forgetting to empty the pockets of your dirty clothes of change, car keys, etc.
- Alcosta (aluminum-coated steel): this material is often used in mid-tier dryers, providing enhanced rust protection and a more durable coating than alluminized alloy.
- Stainless steel: found in higher-end dryers, this material provides the best rust prevention, and will withstand the most abuse over time. Stainless steel's smooth surface also reduces friction on your clothes, prolonging its lifespan.
