Many people are confused by this terminology and how it is used to categorize laundry. The best way to understand the front-load vs top-load distinction is to look at the washer any given dryer is designed to match. Washers really do come in front-load or top-loading variants. All dryers, however, are front-load, with some designed to match with top-load washers, and others designed to match with front-load washers. Therefore, if you see "Top-load Dryer" written somewhere, think "top-load-matching dryer". The main difference is the shape of the door and placement of controls. Front-load-matching dryers look very similar to their front-load washer counterpart, with its large round door and controls on the front. Top-load-matching dryers will usually have a rectangular or square door on the front, but have a general profile similar to their top-load washer counterparts, with a control panel on top.
